NewsArmeniaPROFAL Opens a New $20 Million Architectural Glass Processing Plant in Armenia, the Largest in the Region

PROFAL opened an architectural glass processing plant in the Nairi community of Kotayk Province, built from the ground up to European and American standards with an investment of more than $20 million. The company says it is the largest facility of its kind in the region.

The plant has created 75 jobs, with 100 more planned in the next phase. PROFAL already employs more than 500 people, so once those positions are filled its workforce is expected to exceed 600.

The facility is designed to raise PROFAL’s glass processing output roughly fivefold, to more than 40,000 square meters of processed glass a month once it reaches full operation. That capacity is intended to let the company take on the most complex and large-scale projects in Armenia as well as international contracts.

About $20 million has gone into construction and modern equipment, and PROFAL plans a further $10 million over the next two years, taking total investment in the integrated complex past $30 million.

PROFAL currently sells about 80 percent of its output inside Armenia and exports the remaining 20 percent. The new plant is intended to reverse that ratio and push the export share significantly higher.

The company says it has exported since 2013, reaching the United States, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, Russia and Georgia, and adding Canada in 2025.

PROFAL signed two cooperation agreements at the opening. CEO Edgar Avetisyan and Paul Magnanville, founder of the French company SAS TERRITOIRE, signed an agreement worth €30 million, and Avetisyan signed a second with Jimmy Koutso, founder of Aluvista Systems, under which PROFAL will supply 20,000 square meters of doors and windows.

“To be honest, I am very impressed. I have not seen a plant of this scale even in France. Everything is brand-new and equipped with modern machinery,” Magnanville said.

“Our international operations have long extended beyond simply exporting products. Today, PROFAL is involved in some of the most demanding private-sector projects worldwide, as well as construction and reconstruction projects for major public-sector facilities of significant importance,” Avetisyan said. He named school buildings and naval facilities in France and a hurricane-resistant residential complex in Florida.

PROFAL built the plant using a government leasing program under which the state subsidizes interest on leased machinery for the first three years. The company signed seven leasing contracts and the state has covered 227.3 million drams in interest. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attended the opening and toured the facility alongside government members, diplomatic representatives and PROFAL’s Armenian and international partners.

From October 2026 through 2028, the company’s European partners will also be exempt from customs duties on products imported from PROFAL.

“Expanding domestic production, manufacturing higher value-added products, and increasing both the volume and geographical reach of exports are among the key priorities of our economic policy. PROFAL’s new plant is one of the initiatives directly contributing to these objectives,” Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan said. He called the project an example of effective cooperation between the public and private sectors.

Papoyan had toured the plant in September, before it opened. “It is important for us that modern, highly productive factories are established in Armenia,” he said then.

The industrial complex covers 120,000 square meters, of which 17,000 are given over to glass production and storage. PROFAL plans to expand its production area to 40,000 square meters within two years as it consolidates all of its manufacturing at the site, which the company says would make it the largest industrial plant built in the history of independent Armenia.

PROFAL was founded on March 19, 2002 by three friends, David Safaryan, Gevorg Demirtshyan and Meruzhan Avetisyan, and manufactures aluminum doors, windows and facade systems. It has completed more than 30,000 projects and works with over 10,000 partners. The opening comes ahead of the company’s 25th anniversary.
