NewsDiasporaHaifa Municipality Restores Damaged Armenian Genocide Square Street Sign

The Haifa Municipality has restored the street sign marking Armenian Genocide Square after it was found damaged and knocked down, reports Jerusalemite-Armenian Kegham Balian.

The cause of the damage remains unconfirmed. While some sources initially suggested vandalism, others indicated the sign may have been in poor condition and possibly knocked over by wind.

The Armenian community of Haifa is considering installing cameras near the sign to help prevent similar incidents in the future.

Haifa is widely regarded as a city where Jews, Muslims, and Christians coexist in relative harmony. It is also the second city after Petakh Tikva to formally recognize the Armenian Genocide.

As of today, the State of Israel has not officially recognized the Armenian Genocide of 1915 perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire.
