Organized by the Romanian Mathematical Society under the aegis of the Mathematical Society of South Eastern Europe and first held in Belgrade in 1997, the JBMO is one of the region’s most established youth mathematics competitions and is contested as a written problem-solving exam.

The gold medal was awarded to Hayk Manukyan, a 10th-grade student at Quantum College. Levon Hayrapetyan, an 8th-grade student at Ayb School, won the silver medal.

Bronze medals went to Erik Hasratyan, a 9th-grade student at Gazprom Armenia School, and to Tade Moradyanhajiabadi (8th grade), Artashes Tumanyan (9th grade), and Khachatur Vardanyan (9th grade), students of the A. Shahinyan Specialized Physics and Mathematics School.

The Armenian team was coached by Tigran Chtyan and Edgar Hoghmrcyan, specialists from the Qarakusi Educational Foundation.

The previous Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad saw Armenia represented by Tigran Hakheyan, then a 9th-grade student at Quantum College, who won a silver medal. The olympiad is open to school students aged 15.5 or younger.
