The homes of two Armenian families have been destroyed and several Armenians left injured or missing following the powerful earthquake that struck Venezuela, according to the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia. The disaster, triggered by a magnitude 7.5 quake that followed a 7.2 foreshock by less than a minute, has killed at least 164 people and injured close to 1,000 nationwide as of the morning of June 25, 2026.
His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, has been following the difficulties facing Venezuela’s Armenian community throughout the day, remaining in constant contact with the community’s spiritual director, Bishop Petros Manouelian.
Based on the information relayed by Bishop Manouelian, the earthquake produced a violent and terrifying shock, with extensive material and human losses. Fear and uncertainty continue to grip the population. Among the Armenian community, two families have lost their homes, and several Armenians are reported injured or unaccounted for.
The Bishop and the community’s administrative council are closely tracking the unfolding situation, the Catholicosate said, while staying in regular communication with the Catholicos.
