One of the most beautiful streets in the heart of Sofia now officially carries the name “Armenia Alley,” the Embassy of Armenia in Bulgaria announced. The street, located in the Bulgarian capital’s Peyo Yavorov neighborhood, was renamed by a decision of the Sofia City Council, and the new bilingual signage, reading “???? ???????” and “Armenia Alley,” is already in place.
The measure passed unanimously, with 33 votes in favor, 0 against, and 0 abstentions. “This unanimous support is an important expression of friendship and mutual respect, which reflects the centuries-old ties and strong friendship formed between the Armenian and Bulgarian peoples,” the embassy said.
The embassy expressed sincere gratitude to the Sofia City Council and to the administration of the Sredets district for their work in bringing the initiative to life. “We express our sincere gratitude to the Sofia City Council and the administration of the Sredets district for their dedication and consistent efforts, thanks to which this initiative was brought to life, becoming a lasting symbol of the historic Armenian-Bulgarian friendship, as well as an expression of appreciation for the Armenian presence in Bulgaria and the contribution of the Armenian community,” the statement said.
An official opening ceremony will be held to mark the occasion, with further details to be announced.
