Armenian-American Sev Ohanian’s Proximity Media has signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to exclusively develop TV series for the streaming platform, reports the Armenian Film Society.
The deal marks a new home for the company’s television division, which departs Disney after a five-year overall TV deal signed in 2018 expired earlier this year. Under the agreement, Proximity Media will develop new scripted series exclusively for Netflix. No financial terms were disclosed.
Founded by Sev Ohanian, Ryan Coogler, and Zinzi Coogler in 2018, Proximity Media is known for projects including “Ironheart,” “Hurricane Katrina: A Race Against Time,” “Eyes of Wakanda,” and “Sinners.” The company has a mission to create event-driven feature films, television, soundtracks, and podcasts that bring audiences closer together through stories involving often-overlooked subject matters. Its television division is run by Simone Harris, vice president of television.
The partnership arrives during a landmark stretch for the company. “Sinners,” the Ryan Coogler film produced by Proximity, earned a record 16 Academy Award nominations, the most ever for a single film, and won four Oscars including Original Screenplay for Coogler and Lead Actor for Michael B. Jordan. The film grossed more than $365 million worldwide and stands as the highest-grossing original feature of 2025.
Armenian Film Society, along with Warner Bros. Pictures and Gold House, hosted the Los Angeles premiere of Proximity Media’s “Sinners” in April 2025. Ryan Coogler served as the Guest of Honor at the 2025 Armenian Film Festival, where Sev Ohanian was inducted into the inaugural Armenian Film Hall of Fame.
