Voter turnout in Armenia’s parliamentary elections reached 58.97 percent, as 1,476,597 of 2,503,976 eligible citizens cast ballots before polls closed at 8:00 p.m. local time on Sunday. The figure, announced by Central Electoral Commission Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan, was the highest of any Armenian parliamentary vote since 2017 and marked the first regularly scheduled election since then. Vote counting is now underway.

For comparison, turnout in the 2021 parliamentary election was 49.39% and in 2018 it was 48.62%, while the 2017 vote drew 60.86%, which remains the highest on record.

The Central Electoral Commission also released the following regional breakdown of voter participation:

  • Yerevan: 496,643 voters
  • Aragatsotn: 69,993 voters
  • Ararat: 131,819 voters
  • Armavir: 126,302 voters
  • Gegharkunik: 97,114 voters
  • Lori: 124,983 voters
  • Kotayk: 148,302 voters
  • Shirak: 115,249 voters
  • Syunik: 71,320 voters
  • Vayots Dzor: 29,293 voters
  • Tavush: 65,579 voters

Syunik recorded the highest turnout at 66.67 percent, followed by Vayots Dzor at 65.63 percent and Tavush at 63.40 percent. The lowest participation was in Gegharkunik at 54.60 percent.

Eighteen political forces took part in the National Assembly elections: 16 political parties and two alliances. They are:

  1. Reformists Party (Vahan Babayan)
  2. Against Everyone Democratic Party (Nina Karapetyants)
  3. Strong Armenia Alliance: Strong Armenia, New Era, I Am Armenia (Samvel Karapetyan)
  4. Meritocratic Party of Armenia (Gurgen Simonyan)
  5. New Force Reformist Party (Hayk Marutyan)
  6. Wings of Unity Party (Arman Tatoyan)
  7. Prosperous Armenia Party (Gagik Tsarukyan)
  8. National Democratic Alliance Pan-Armenian Party (Varuzhan Avetisyan)
  9. Kochari: National Revival and Awakening of the Nation Party (Artak Sargsyan)
  10. Armenian National Congress (Levon Zurabyan)
  11. Republic Party (Aram Sargsyan)
  12. Christian Democratic Party (Levon Shirinyan)
  13. Democratic Consolidation Party (Suren Petrosyan)
  14. Democracy, Law, Discipline (DOK) Party (Vardan Ghukasyan)
  15. Civil Contract Party (Nikol Pashinyan)
  16. Hayastan Alliance: Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun and the Forward center-right party (Robert Kocharyan)
  17. For the Republic – Defenders of Democracy Party (Arman Babajanyan)
  18. Bright Armenia Party (Edmon Marukyan)

Voting took place across 2,005 polling stations nationwide, with 71 media outlets accredited to cover the election and 13 local and eight international observation missions monitoring the process, including the OSCE/ODIHR, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, PACE, the European Parliament, and the International Organization of La Francophonie.

As of 8:00 p.m., the Investigative Committee of Armenia reported that 59 criminal proceedings had been initiated in connection with alleged election-related offenses. Of these, 43 were launched by regional investigative units and 16 by Yerevan-based divisions. Nine of the proceedings were initiated under Article 210 of the Criminal Code, which concerns obstruction of the exercise of electoral rights, participation in elections or referendums, or the exercise of related rights and duties.
