Agro Prom has opened a state-of-the-art tomato greenhouse in Aragatsotn Province, investing roughly 9.7 billion drams, or about $26.65 million, Armenia’s Economy Ministry said.

The entire output is exported to the European Union and the United Arab Emirates, Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan said.

The greenhouse sits in the village of Nor Yedesia and covers more than 10 hectares. Acba Bank, which financed the project, said it is projected to produce over 6,000 tons of tomatoes a year.

Artificial intelligence management systems and robotic solutions monitor and manage the crop. No chemical agents are used in production, the tomatoes are grown from Dutch seed bred for high virus resistance, and the facility carries GLOBALG.A.P. certification, an international standard for safe and sustainable farming.

Nor Yedesia sits at roughly 1,000 meters altitude, where strong sun and clean mountain air suit year-round growing under glass. Agro Prom was founded in 2025 and is led by founder and CEO Hayk Hunanyan.

The full site will run to 20 hectares. A second 10-hectare greenhouse for peppers is under construction at a planned cost of around 9 billion drams, and blueberry and grape orchards are planned for adjacent land in later stages.

The French firm Richel Group built the structure. “We have collaborated with various investors in Armenia for over a decade. Agro Prom operates with a high level of professionalism,” said sales director Brice Richel. “The current state of this greenhouse is the result of just 1.5 months of effort: we completely levelled the rocky terrain and established a flat 10-hectare site.”

From 2026 the company plans to run its own Volvo trucks with Schmitz Cargobull refrigerated semi-trailers, which would keep the produce chilled from the greenhouse to the customer without relying on outside carriers.

Hunanyan has named the Eurasian Economic Union, the Middle East and Europe as target markets for the company.

“Armenia can become a credible supplier of premium greenhouse vegetables to several international markets,” Hunanyan said.

Papoyan attended the opening, where he pointed to the role such facilities play in economic growth, attracting investment and creating jobs. The company benefited from Armenia’s state support program for greenhouse farm development.
