Henrikh Mkhitaryan has won the Coppa Italia with Inter, his sixth trophy since joining the Milan club in 2022 and the 28th of his career. Inter defeated Lazio 2-0 in the final at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, with the Armenian midfielder coming off the bench in the 68th minute to help close out the result.
For the 37-year-old, the trophy caps a domestic double in Italy this season, with Inter having claimed the Serie A title ten days earlier. It is the latest chapter in a late-career run that has placed the former Armenia captain and all-time leading scorer for the national team at the heart of one of European football’s most successful sides. Reports have suggested the current season could be his last, though no formal announcement has been made.
Inter effectively settled the final in the first half. In the 14th minute, Adam Marusic turned a Federico Dimarco corner into his own net to give Cristian Chivu’s side the lead. Before the break, Lautaro Martinez doubled the advantage, finishing a quick attacking move set up by Denzel Dumfries. Lazio pushed to respond after the interval, but Inter controlled the tempo and saw the match out without conceding. The victory is Inter’s tenth Coppa Italia, second only to Juventus in the competition’s history.
Mkhitaryan’s 28 career titles span six clubs across five countries. With Pyunik in Yerevan, he won five Armenian Premier League titles, three Armenian Super Cups, and one Armenian Cup. With Shakhtar Donetsk he won three Ukrainian Premier League titles, three Ukrainian Cups, and one Ukrainian Super Cup. At Borussia Dortmund he claimed two DFL-Supercups. At Manchester United he won the UEFA Europa League in 2017, the EFL Cup, and the FA Community Shield. With Roma he lifted the inaugural UEFA Conference League in 2022 under José Mourinho. And with Inter he has now won two Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia titles, and two Supercoppa Italiana titles. In 2017 he became the first Armenian footballer to win a major European trophy, scoring the winning goal in Manchester United’s Europa League final against Ajax.
