Armenia’s National Assembly has approved amendments to the Law on the State Flag of the Republic of Armenia, requiring the country’s national flag to be installed at the main entrances of all cities, towns, and villages across the country.
The bill was passed with 63 votes in favor during its second and final reading on July 3, introduced by National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan and Alkhas Ghazaryan, both members of the ruling Civil Contract party.
Currently, there are no uniform regulations governing the placement of Armenia’s national flag across cities, towns, and villages. In most cases, local authorities decide where to display the flag, typically placing it in central squares or other public spaces, while only some communities have flags at their entrances.
According to the authors of the bill, the amendments are aimed at strengthening national identity and fostering greater respect for Armenia’s state symbols by ensuring the flag is prominently displayed at the main entrance to every city, town, and village across the country.
Under the new law, the Armenian government will establish the procedures for the installation, maintenance, and preservation of the flags, ensuring they are displayed in accordance with uniform national standards.
