In an unprecedented display of basketball talent, Nicholas Khatchikian set a new all-time California state scoring record by netting 102 points in just 22 minutes, leading Armenian Mesrobian School to a commanding 119-25 victory over Waverly. This performance not only places Nicholas in the high school basketball history books but also marks the highest point total in a single game in California boys high school basketball history and ties for the 16th most points in a game in all of U.S. high school basketball.
Nicholas’s remarkable achievement was accomplished on an incredible shooting performance, making 48 of 60 shots from the field, with a staggering 79 points amassed by halftime alone. This feat makes him the first player to score 100 or more points in California since 2003, breaking the record set by Mesrobian alumnus and current assistant coach Tigran Grigorian, who scored 100 points for Mesrobian against Pacific Christian in a 114-47 win.
Not to be overshadowed, Nicholas’s twin brother, Dylan Khatchikian, also had a standout performance, tying the national high school record with 35 assists and adding 13 steals. Impressively, Dylan achieved a triple-double that included 15 rebounds, without scoring a single point, demonstrating his crucial role in both the offensive and defensive success of the team at Mesrobian.
The Khatchikian twins’ extraordinary performances have not only rewritten the record books but also showcased their exceptional skills and teamwork on the basketball court.
