Armenia secured a 2-1 victory over Latvia in their UEFA Nations League match in Riga, Latvia on Sunday, concluding their group stage campaign with a win under the leadership of interim head coach Suren Chakhalyan.
After a goalless first half, Armenia took the lead in the 48th minute when Eduard Spertsyan scored an emphatic header following a well-placed assist from Lucas Zelarayán. Latvia leveled the match in the 70th minute through Roberts Uldriķis, but Armenia quickly regained their advantage. Just four minutes later, Artur Miranyan netted his first goal for the national team, sealing the 2-1 victory.
With this result, Armenia finished second in League C Group 4 with 7 points and will now compete in a two-legged transition match against a third-placed team from League B. The winner of this play-off, scheduled for March 2025, will secure a spot in League B for the next Nations League cycle. North Macedonia topped the group after defeating the Faroe Islands 1-0 in their final match, finishing with 16 points. The Faroe Islands placed third, while Latvia concluded at the bottom of the group.
Armenia’s Nations League journey saw highs and lows, including a dominant 4-1 victory over Latvia earlier in Yerevan, a 2-2 draw against the Faroe Islands, and narrow losses to North Macedonia and the Faroe Islands. Moving forward, the team will reflect on their progress and build on their strengths for future challenges.
