Armenian high school students won eight medals at the 4th International Applied Biology Olympiad (IABO), including two gold, five silver, and one bronze medal.

The prestigious event, held from June 20 to 23 in Bali, Indonesia, saw participants from Armenia’s top educational institutions compete against peers from around the world.

Aram Kerobyan, an 11th grader from Quantum College, and Mariam Galstyan, a 10th grader from Yerevan State University (YSU) STEM School, each won a gold medal.

The silver medals were claimed by Quantum College’s 11th graders Ara Melkonyan and Hrachya Sevoyan, as well as Ani Gevorgyan, a 9th grader from the same school. Nane Ananikyan and Ellen Danielyan, both 10th graders from YSU STEM School and Hrazdan High School No. 10, also earned silver medals.

Rounding out Armenia’s medal haul, Hayk Harutyunyan, a 10th-grade student from Quantum College, took home a bronze medal.

The Armenian team was led by Vahagn Gevorgyan, a biology teacher from Quantum College.

This international competition drew more than 100 students from various countries, including the U.S., Bangladesh, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Nepal, and the Philippines, to its final round. The Armenian students, having excelled in the preliminary two rounds conducted online, were well-prepared and motivated for the challenges in Bali.
