Madrid, Spain – REBUILD 2024, the premier European event dedicated to advancing the construction industry through industrialized practices, digital innovation, and sustainable solutions, successfully concluded its seventh edition at IFEMA MADRID from March 19 to 21. The event attracted over 24,000 specifiers and buyers, alongside the unveiling of more than 5,600 new building projects, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of building construction.
Among the highlights of REBUILD 2024 was the introduction of the Barcelona District project, an ambitious urban planning endeavor inspired by the iconic city of Barcelona. This project, slated for development in Yerevan, Armenia, and Tashkent, Uzbekistan, represents a visionary step forward in tactical urbanism and sustainable city development.
The Barcelona District project is spearheaded by The Petrosyan Group and Silk Ventures under the leadership of Sedrak Petrosyan, with renowned Spanish architect and urban planner Josep A. Acebillo at the helm of design and planning. A roundtable discussion titled “Tactical Urbanism: How to build what Innovative and Technological Districts need” featured insights from Mr. Petrosyan and Mr. Acebillo, alongside Mr. Osvaldo Mireles, president of the International Network of Smart Cities, and Ms. Almudena Cano Piñeiro, Director of Sustainable Urban Development at Metrovacesa.
Mr. Acebillo shared his profound experience and philosophy on urban planning, stressing the essence of sustainability beyond its commercial misuse and reflecting on his transformative work for the Barcelona Olympics. Mr. Petrosyan, on the other hand, highlighted the untapped potential of emerging European territories like Uzbekistan and Armenia, outlining the collaborative spirit and expertise required to bring such monumental projects to fruition.
The presentation and ensuing discussion captivated the audience, particularly during the showcase of the promotional video for Tashkent 2.0 and the Barcelona District of Uzbekistan. The presence of Mr. Zafar Amanov, Economic Affairs Consultant of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Spain, underscored the project’s international support and the keen interest it has generated. Press conferences elaborating on the development will be announced in Armenia and Uzbekistan.
REBUILD 2024 has once again demonstrated its role as a catalyst for the future of construction, with the Barcelona District project embodying the innovation, sustainability, and collaborative effort that defines the next frontier of urban development.
