Armenia’s Ambassador to the European Union, Tigran Balayan, has issued a stark warning, stating that Azerbaijan wants to attack Armenia ahead of a key trilateral meeting between Armenia, the United States, and the EU on April 5, on X (formerly Twitter).
Balayan said, “On Easter, the Aliyev regime in Azerbaijan and its allies want to attack Armenia in an attempt to derail the April 5th meeting of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.”
He said the meeting is “aimed at the development and resilience of Armenia.”
Balayan remarks come amid false accusations from Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry that Armenia is allegedly amassing military hardware and troops along the border, which was immediately denied by Armenia’s Defense Ministry.
The EU observer mission in Armenia stationed on the border denied Baku’s false accusations and said that it patrolled the Armenia-Azerbaijan border all day long, that everything was calm and quiet, and that no unusual movements were observed.
Toivo Klaar, the EU’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus, responded to the post of the EU mission and said, Good to have confirmation from the EU Mission in Armenia that no unusual military movements have been observed. That is what the purpose of the mission is: to provide greater transparency and build confidence. It remains open to more engagement also with the authorities of Azerbaijan.
