The Republic of Armenia has confirmed 26 new coronavirus cases and its 14th death, on Monday, April 13, total cases now stand at 1,039, per Armenia’s Ministry of Health.

Out of the 1,039 total cases, 211 people recovered (14 Today) and 14 patients with underlying health conditions died. The remaining 814 are active cases, per Alina Nikoghosyan, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health. To date, 7,631 negative coronavirus tests have been conducted in Armenia, added Nikoghosyan.

A 67-year-old women has died of the coronavirus at the St. Gregory the Illuminator Medical Center in Yerevan, she suffered from pre-existing medical conditions such as double pneumonia, she also had chronic diseases, such as diabetes, per Alina Nikoghosyan, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health.

“12% of the Armenia’s permanent population (353,000 people) are at risk for contracting Covid-19 due to their age and regardless of their health status,” said Tigran Avinyan, Deputy PM of Armenia at a parliamentary session devoted to the battle against the coronavirus in Armenia.

“In terms of chronic diseases, the number of people with diabetes is 77,418, the number of people with ischemic heart disease is 71,025, and the number of people with hypertension is 145,408,” Avinyan said.

Today, the Republic of Armenia decided to extend the state of emergency originally declared on March 16 by 30 more days until May 14, per News.am. Armenia has ifted the coronavirus-related media coverage restrictions, per Rustam Badasyan, Minister of Justice. The restrictions were imposed in mid-March during the state of emergency and required the press to cite official information while covering the coronavirus situation amid the emergency in order not to cause panic by circulating unconfirmed or false information. Now when the restrictions are lifted, the government will however monitor the publications and in the event of noticing risks the decision will be reinstated.
