The Republic of Armenia has confirmed 40 new coronavirus cases, on Saturday, April 11, total cases now stand at 977, per Armenia’s Ministry of Health.

Out of the 977 total cases (29 in morning and 11 in the evening), 173 people recovered (24 Today) and 13 patients with underlying health conditions died. The remaining 791 are active cases, per Alina Nikoghosyan, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health. To date, 6,484 negative coronavirus tests have been conducted in Armenia, added Nikoghosyan.

Today, the Republic of Armenia reported its 13th fatality from the coronavirus 26 days after declaring a state of emergency to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 13th death was a 86-year-old man has died of the coronavirus, he suffered from pre-existing medical conditions such as double pneumonia, he also had chronic diseases, including arterial hypertension, diabetes, ischemic heart disease, per Alina Nikoghosyan, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health.

Today, PM Nikol Pashinyan announced that the average age of the citizens dying from the coronavirus is 76.2, whereas the average age of a patient is 42. This statistics also confirm that the coronavirus is particularly risky for our older citizens.

“On Monday or Tuesday, the government will make a decision, after which a special sitting of the National Assembly will be held, where the issue of the state of emergency will also be discussed. Our conclusion is that it is necessary to extend the state of emergency, since it is necessary to prevent the further spread of the [novel coronavirus] infection [in Armenia], said PM Nikol Pashinyan.
