California attorney Aynur Baghirzade, who gained notoriety earlier this year for her inflammatory remarks about Armenia, has filed a $500 million lawsuit against the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) and several other entities, reports The Armenian Weekly
The 58-page lawsuit, filed on June 21 in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California, accuses the defendants of misrepresenting her views and damaging her professional reputation.
Baghirzade, who referred to Armenia as a “carcinoma” that needed to be “deleted,” has been active on X (formerly Twitter), where she has made numerous racist calls for the eradication of Armenians from the Caucasus region. In response, the ANCA flagged her most egregious posts for the California State Bar Association, requesting a review of her standing as a licensed lawyer.
Aynur Baghirzade was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, and immigrated to the United States in 2016 under the EB-2 NIW visa category as a professional with an advanced degree. She moved to the U.S. permanently in 2021. Her legal education includes a degree from Baku State University and an L.L.M. from the University of Connecticut School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in the state of California and is fluent in English, Russian, Turkish, and Azerbaijani.
