Yesterday, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev visited Artsakh’s occupied Hadrut region where he threatened to wipe off Armenian inscriptions from a 12th Century Armenian Church, and proclaimed their inscriptions “fake” and worthy of erasure.

Aliyev claimed “Armenians wanted to Armenianize this church by leaving inscriptions in Armenian” during his visit to the St. Astvatsatsin Armenian Church in the village of Tsakuri, in Occupied Hadrut.

He went so far as to say that the church looks like “a barn and a garbage dump,” accusing Armenians of desecrating what he described as “an Albanian temple,” and pledged to “restore” it.

The Azerbaijani dictator personally instructs to wipe off Armenian traces from the occupied areas in Artsakh. War Crimes by President Aliyev’s regime continue at full scale,” said Tigran Balayan, Armenia’s Ambassador to the Netherlands.

The Hadrut region came under Baku’s control as a result of the 44-day war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
