“The TRIPP arrangement could become a global model for how a country can open itself to economic activity and prosperity without in any way questioning or undermining its sovereignty or territorial integrity,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in Washington during a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Tuesday, reports Zartonk Media.
Speaking briefly to reporters, Rubio said that the United States would continue taking, “important steps” along the direction of the so-called “Trump Road.”
“We will continue working on an agreement that we believe is an excellent example. It opens Armenia to business and economic prosperity while in no way harming Armenia’s sovereignty,” Rubio said. “There is no sovereignty issue here, it is respectful of their sovereignty.”
Rubio also stressed the broader benefits of the initiative, saying it would strengthen bilateral ties beyond the project itself. “We think it’s going to be great for Armenia, great for the United States, great for everyone involved, but ultimately a model for the world. And we’re very committed and we’re taking important steps today to continue to move forward on this,” Rubio said.
According to an official statement from Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mirzoyan and Rubio expressed satisfaction with the active momentum in developing the Armenia–U.S. strategic partnership, the implementation of existing agreements, and the expansion of joint initiatives and future cooperation.
The two officials also discussed progress in implementing agreements reached during the Washington Peace Summit held on August 8, 2025. Both sides emphasized the importance of further institutionalizing peace and reviewed steps being taken in that direction.
During the meeting, the Armenian foreign minister and the U.S. secretary of state confirmed a joint statement on the Armenia–U.S. implementation framework for the “Trump Road for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) program. According to the agreement, the joint statement will be published on Tuesday, at 5:00 p.m. Washington time.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan is scheduled to hold a press conference on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Yerevan time, where he will outline the key points of the joint statement and respond to journalists’ questions.
As part of the visit, Mirzoyan also made an entry in the book of honorary guests.
Earlier, at the end of December last year, reports emerged about the possibility of a visit by the U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance to Armenia in early 2026. Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs neither confirmed nor denied the information.
