Zvartnots Dance Ensemble to Present Vostan Hayots at Mission Playhouse in Los Angeles on October 12

CultureZvartnots Dance Ensemble to Present Vostan Hayots at Mission Playhouse in Los Angeles on October 12

On Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 6:00 PM, the legendary Zvartnots Dance Ensemble will take the stage at the historic San Gabriel Mission Playhouse for a breathtaking performance titled Vostan Hayots. This highly-anticipated event will showcase the ensemble’s artistry, heritage, and dedication to preserving the timeless traditions of Armenian dance and culture.

About the Ensemble

Founded on December 9, 1989, by Vartan Aghajanyan at just 18 years old, Zvartnots Dance Ensemble was born from a vision to safeguard Armenian identity and pass it down to future generations through the language of dance. Together with his wife, Armine Aghajanyan, Vartan has built one of the most respected Armenian dance groups in the diaspora.

For over three decades, Zvartnots has been the only ensemble in the United States dedicated exclusively to Armenian folk and ethnic dance. Their repertoire captures the richness of Armenia’s regions, traditions, and history—transforming the stage into a living tapestry of culture. Each performance is a cultural journey, where audiences are invited to witness Armenia’s soul expressed through movement, costume, and music.

Achievements & Legacy

Zvartnots has performed across the globe, from Los Angeles to Yerevan and Artsakh, and even earned a Gold Medal at an international dance festival in Malta in 2004. Their concerts are not just shows—they are cultural milestones. Past productions such as Mother Armenia, Christian Armenia, and Land of Nairi have drawn sold-out crowds, while their anniversary performances in Yerevan and Los Angeles highlighted the ensemble’s international impact.

Their work is recognized as essential in strengthening Armenian identity in the diaspora, ensuring that young Armenians grow up deeply connected to their heritage. Hundreds of students have passed through their classes, learning not only technique but also pride in who they are.

The October 12 Performance: Vostan Hayots

This year’s performance, titled Vostan Hayots—which translates to the “Court of the Armenians” and refers to one of the ancient Armenian capitals—will immerse audiences in a celebration of Armenia’s historical and spiritual legacy. Through powerful choreography, vibrant costumes, and stirring music, the production will pay homage to the resilience and creativity of the Armenian people.

For the Aghajanyans, Vostan Hayots is more than a performance. It is a call to remember, honor, and keep alive the Armenian story in all its depth and beauty.

Why It Matters

In a time when diaspora communities fight to keep their roots strong, ensembles like Zvartnots are not just performers—they are guardians of identity. By training generations of dancers, bringing Armenian traditions to international stages, and reminding us of the richness of our culture, Zvartnots Dance Ensemble fulfills a sacred mission.

Their October 12 performance is not simply an evening of dance—it is a cultural statement, a declaration that Armenian art endures and thrives, no matter the challenges.
