The Iranian Embassy in Armenia has reported that a residential building in the old Armenian neighborhood of Majidieh in Tehran was hit by a U.S.-Israeli strike, with no fatalities reported so far, though the embassy said some residents were trapped under rubble and preliminary reports indicated that a child may have been injured.
The reported strike comes amid the ongoing military escalation involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
In a statement, the embassy said video from the scene shows a local Armenian woman describing the missile strike on her apartment complex and criticizing Donald Trump for his brutality.
Video from the scene shows heavy damage to the residential complex, though the full extent of the destruction and any injuries has not been independently confirmed.
Majidieh is one of Tehran’s oldest Armenian neighborhoods and one of the main centers of Armenian life in the Iranian capital. The district is known for its active community life and developed infrastructure, much of which was shaped by the Iranian-Armenian community over decades. Local reporting says Armenian community leaders purchased land there in the early 1950s, after which homes were built and Armenian families settled in the neighborhood, helping turn Majidieh into a key Armenian area of Tehran and one of east Tehran’s best-known Armenian-populated districts.
