Armenia is building the region’s largest chocolate and confectionery factory, backed by a €145 million investment by Vellar Group to develop a 25-hectare production complex. The facility will use advanced German and Danish technologies and is expected to reach full operation within three years, create up to 2,000 jobs, and produce up to 200 tons per day, according to Armenia’s Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan and the Ministry of Economy following his January 20 visit to the construction site with Deputy Minister Edgar Zakaryan.
During the visit, Papoyan toured Vellar Group’s newly constructed chocolate and confectionery plant with the company’s leadership. He reviewed the installed equipment, examined production capacity, and learned more about the facility’s technological production lines.
Approximately €120 million has already been invested in the project, with an additional €25 million planned in the near future.
The factory will produce a wide range of confectionery products, including chocolate and caramel candies, protein and fruit bars, chocolate-coated cookies and wafers, and Armenian dried fruits coated with high-quality chocolate.
Papoyan said Vellar Group has benefited from Armenia’s state support instruments, including customs duty exemptions and an infrastructure-for-investment support program, which provides support for infrastructure development in exchange for large-scale investments. He described the project as a strong example of how government support tools can drive large-scale industrial development and expand value-added production in Armenia.
Vellar Group is one of the companies within the Swedish-origin GNG international business group.
