According to the election results, Ani Zalinyan secured a parliamentary mandate, becoming the first Armenian representative in the country’s history. Her election stands as a milestone for Armenians in the Netherlands and across Europe, symbolizing both achievement and representation for the Armenian diaspora. Originally from Hoofddorp, Zalinyan serves as an alderman (wethouder) in the municipality of Heemskerk, focusing on housing, spatial planning, climate adaptation, and environmental issues. With a background in law and public administration, she has been recognized for her leadership and ability to make complex policy accessible to citizens. “What drives me is the desire to build a society where everyone has the space to move forward. It starts with a solid foundation: an affordable home. That is why I entered politics and what I dedicate myself to every day as an alderman,” Zalinyan stated.
She emphasized that accessible housing, healthcare, education, and a livable, climate-resilient environment should be guaranteed for all, adding, “Too many people are working just to survive instead of to live. That must change. Politics must start delivering again — with fair solutions for real problems.”
The GroenLinks–PvdA candidate committee described Zalinyan as “a politician who has made a lasting impression in a short time,” highlighting her effectiveness, determination, and enthusiasm in connecting with people and achieving results through collaboration.
