Aïda Aznavour-Garvarentz, Charles Aznavour’s Sister, Passes Away at 102

NewsArmeniaAïda Aznavour-Garvarentz, Charles Aznavour’s Sister, Passes Away at 102

Aïda Aznavour-Garvarentz, the beloved sister of the late legendary French-Armenian artist Charles Aznavour, has passed peacefully away at the age of 102, leaving behind a life full of love, strength, grace, and devotion to her family and heritage, the Aznavour Family and the Aznavour Foundation announced.

Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1923, Aïda shared with her brother not only their Armenian roots and Parisian upbringing, but also a lifelong bond of affection and artistic kinship. Their connection was profound, rooted in shared history, music, and compassion.

Aïda and Charles Aznavour’s relationship was one of deep mutual respect and artistic kinship. The two remained close throughout their lives, with Charles often referring to Aïda as one of his life’s “steady anchors” and the keeper of their family’s memory.

Aïda was married to Georges Garvarentz, the renowned Armenian poet and composer whose collaboration with Charles Aznavour produced some of the most timeless songs in French and Armenian music. Together, Aïda and Georges embodied the creative spirit of the Armenian diaspora, blending poetry, melody, and emotion into works that touched millions.

Aïda’s life was a bridge between generations, a witness to a century of change, creativity, and resilience. She carried forward the values that defined the Aznavour family: kindness, loyalty, humility, and a deep belief in the power of art and humanity.

The Aznavour Family shared the following statement: “Our hearts are heavy with grief, yet full of gratitude for the years we had with Aïda. Her love and warmth will remain with us always. In her passing, we honor not only a beloved sister and aunt but a life lived with dignity and devotion.”

The family also expressed their thanks to all those who have offered condolences and shared memories of Aïda during this time. She will be laid to rest in the family’s burial place in Montfort-l’Amaury, beside her husband and other family members.

The French Embassy in Armenia also expressed condolences, calling Aïda “an artist, elder sister of Charles Aznavour, and guardian of the family’s memory, a witness to Armenian and French life for a century.”

Her life stands as a bridge between generations, a living thread connecting Armenia, France, and the enduring power of cultural legacy.
