Yerevan is set to establish a Confucius University that will focus on the study of Chinese language and culture, as well as the development of academic and economic ties between Armenia and China.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Tatevik Kyureghyan, Rector of the Armenian University of Culture, and Gui Qian, Vice President of Tianjin University of Commerce. The signing ceremony was also attended by Professor Huang Leping, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange and Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Tianjin University of Commerce.
“The opening of the university is the first step, and the potential for Armenian-Chinese cooperation is significantly broader. Our countries have many areas of cooperation. In education, this collaboration should go beyond a single university and include new programs for academic exchanges of students and teachers,” said Professor Huang Leping of Tianjin University in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.
According to Huang, Tianjin University is already implementing teaching and exchange projects that provide partial or full scholarships for international students. He added that the strengthening of interstate ties is based on official agreements, with Armenia and China having signed a number of cooperation documents during meetings within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Huang emphasized that expanding academic programs and exchanges will not only foster cultural dialogue but also strengthen the strategic relations between the two countries.
