AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School opened its doors to its 50th anniversary school year, welcoming board members, principals, administrators, guests, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, and 1,000 students.
The Nazarian Gym was filled with enthusiasm as the school community came together to mark this milestone. The ceremony began with one of AGBU MDS’ longstanding traditions, accompanied by live musicians, as senior students escorted kindergarteners down the aisle. This symbolic passing of the torch highlighted the school’s sense of unity across generations.
Opening remarks were delivered by Student Council President, Diana Karadanaian, and Vice President, Sevag Vakian, who reflected on the school’s history, proudly calling it their “second home.”
Head of School Mr. David Ghoogasian and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Kevork Zoryan, acknowledged the guests and reflected on the institution’s remarkable journey and legacy over the past five decades. The ceremony concluded with a blessing by His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian.
Retired administrators, faculty, and staff were also honored guests, reconnecting with the community and underscoring the school’s enduring foundation. Their presence, alongside current leaders and students, connected the past, present, and future of the Titans community.
Founded in February 1976 with just 19 students, AGBU MDS has grown to more than 1,000 students today, supported by 145 faculty and staff and a network of more than 1,700 alumni. Over the past five decades, the school has emphasized Armenian heritage and academic preparation. Its college preparatory program encourages students to think critically, value their culture, and prepare for a changing world.
As AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian enters its 50th year, the community looks ahead with appreciation for its history and focus on continuing its mission to educate and empower future generations.
