NewsArmeniaFlights to Europe to Launch Soon From Gyumri’s Shirak Airport, Boosting Armenia’s Second Largest City

Flights to European destinations from Gyumri’s Shirak Airport, Armenia’s second-largest city, are expected to begin soon, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan announced during a working visit to Shirak Province on Wednesday.

“We already have an agreement with an airline, and as part of a state subsidy program, probably soon flights to a new destination, towards Europe, will be launched, which will secure extra flow and economic movements for the city and the province,” Khudatyan told reporters.

Shirak Airport, Armenia’s second-largest, has been operating since 1961. Located five kilometers from Gyumri and 120 kilometers from Yerevan, the airport features a 3,220-meter-long, 45-meter-wide runway. In 2007, the General Department of Civil Aviation under the Government of Armenia granted the Shirak Airport the status of an ICAO Class I airport.
