“Monsieur Aznavour” will make its highly anticipated Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday, September 3, at the historic Alex Theatre, headlining the opening night of the 2025 Armenian Film Festival, presented by the Armenian Film Society. This red carpet premiere will be the final major show at the Alex Theatre before it commemorates its 100th anniversary.

Directed by Mehdi Idir and Grand Corps Malade, the musical biographical drama chronicles the extraordinary life of legendary French-Armenian artist Charles Aznavour. Starring Tahar Rahim in the lead role, the film follows Aznavour’s journey from his humble beginnings as the son of Armenian immigrants to his rise as an internationally beloved singer and actor.

The critically acclaimed drama received four César Award nominations, including Best Visual Effects, and also features Camille Moutawakil as Aïda Aznavour, Hovnatan Avédikian as Misha Aznavourian, Gulia Avetisyan as Mélinée Manouchian, Tigran Mekhitarian as Missak Manouchian, and Nariné Grigoryan as Knar Baghdasarian.

Celebrating 10 Years of Armenian Film Society

2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the Armenian Film Society, and this year’s festival is set to be the biggest yet. The celebration kicks off on opening night with the L.A. premiere of Monsieur Aznavour and continues through a week of film screenings, conversations, and special events.

From September 4 to 6, join us at AMC The Americana at Brand 18 for three days of short films, feature films, and exclusive filmmaker discussions in the heart of Glendale.

On Sunday, September 7, the festival will conclude with the organization’s first-ever gala at Vertigo, where we’ll honor special guests and celebrate this milestone anniversary in style. Tickets for the gala will be released soon.
