The Armenian government has approved the allocation of over 3.4 billion drams (approximately $8.9 million) to support the construction, renovation, and equipping of 300 schools and 500 kindergartens across the country. The decision was made during the Cabinet meeting held on July 17, chaired by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The funding was approved through a redistribution of the state budget as part of Armenia’s ongoing educational infrastructure improvement initiative.
According to Andreasyan, the funds will be directed toward the construction and furnishing of schools and kindergartens. Around 2 billion drams from the redistributed budget will go toward building educational complexes—1.3 billion drams for schools and 700 million drams for other educational facilities.
Andreasyan noted that part of the allocation will also replenish the rapid response fund for schools and provide logistical support for institutions implementing artificial intelligence (AI) training programs. She emphasized that the decision supports the expansion of the AI school program, implemented in cooperation with the Science and Technology Foundation since 2023.
An additional 120.6 million drams will be used to supply 61 kindergartens with essential equipment. Meanwhile, 545 million drams will be allocated to offset currency exchange fluctuations in the broader education improvement program.
Andreasyan further stated that 1.5 billion drams will go toward the construction and completion of kindergartens in several communities across Armenia.
Launched in 2021, the education development program is scheduled to continue through 2026. As of April 2025, approximately 452 billion drams have already been spent on its implementation.
