On July 9, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan arrived in the United Arab Emirates for a working visit. He was welcomed at Abu Dhabi International Airport by the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
During his visit, Prime Minister Pashinyan met with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The two leaders held talks in Abu Dhabi focused on strengthening bilateral relations, highlighting the high level of mutual trust and the broad potential for cooperation in the economic, investment, and humanitarian sectors.
Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasized the importance of deepening friendly ties between Armenia and the UAE, noting that the partnership holds significant promise across multiple fields. He underscored the need for continued collaboration to realize this potential.
President Al Nahyan warmly welcomed Pashinyan and reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Armenia. He expressed the Emirates’ readiness to implement mutually beneficial initiatives and praised the current state of the partnership between the two nations.
Both sides reiterated their willingness to maintain a constructive dialogue and work together for the benefit of their respective peoples.
The leaders also discussed the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process and the Armenian government’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative. President Al Nahyan welcomed the progress on the draft peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, expressing hope that it would be signed soon.
Prime Minister Pashinyan, in turn, acknowledged the UAE’s role in promoting regional stability and contributing to global security.
The meeting also addressed other regional and international issues of mutual concern.
According to Armenian government spokesperson Nazeli Baghdasaryan, a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is scheduled for July 10 in Abu Dhabi as part of ongoing peace efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev also arrived in Abu Dhabi on a working visit, according to the Azerbaijani presidential press service. He was received at Zayed International Airport by UAE Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The last meeting between Prime Minister Pashinyan and President Aliyev took place on May 16, 2025, in Tirana, the capital of Albania. The two leaders were in Tirana to attend the 6th summit of the European Political Community.
In anticipation of the upcoming talks, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed hope for the swift signing of a peace agreement between the two countries.
Earlier this month, Middle East Eye reported that the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders were expected to meet in the UAE later in July.
