On May 23, Jeff Barr, Vice President and Chief Evangelist of Amazon Web Services (AWS)—a global technology giant and leader in cloud computing—visited Armenia and held high-level meetings focused on deepening cooperation across the country’s public and tech sectors with Armenia’s President and Minister of High-Tech Industry, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, reports Zartonk Media.

Barr first met with President Khachaturyan and stated AWS is interested in deepening its partnership with Armenia, particularly in the fields of high technology, educational initiatives, and innovative solutions. Barr noted that AWS’s cooperation with Armenia has already yielded tangible results and continues to develop steadily. In turn, Barr thanked the President for the reception and the opportunity for productive dialogue. President Khachaturyan highly valued Armenia’s cooperation with Amazon, emphasizing its importance in the context of the country’s digital agenda, high-tech development, and the formation of an innovative environment. The President thanked Barr for his visit to Armenia and noted that such high-level contacts are important for expanding bilateral cooperation.

They discussed opportunities for implementing joint programs in digitization, artificial intelligence (AI), data management, and related areas. They also addressed prospects for developing new initiatives and projects aimed at fully realizing Armenia’s technological potential.

Later that day, Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan received the delegation led by Barr for a separate meeting. The meeting was aimed at strengthening ongoing cooperation, advancing Armenia’s digital transformation strategy, introducing AWS infrastructure in Armenia, as well as expanding cooperation in cloud services.

During the meeting, several issues related to activating internet services through the Kuiper satellite constellation project were also discussed. Hayrapetyan emphasized the importance of AWS’s support in implementing the “Cloud First Policy.”

Vice President Barr, in turn, highly appreciated the results of cooperation at various levels in Armenia and reaffirmed AWS’s continued support for the Armenian government.

The meeting was attended by Shushan Aleksanyan, Executive Director of Haypost CJSC, who presented the company’s strategy to become a modern digital platform and expand its role in the e-commerce ecosystem. The company is actively exploring cloud migration opportunities in partnership with AWS and aims to integrate into the Amazon platform, with the potential to become a regional logistics center.
