Former French national team striker, World Cup champion, and UEFA Euro champion David Trezeguet has announced his upcoming visit to Armenia to attend the presentation of the Juventus Football Academy in Yerevan on May 29.
Trezeguet is a 1998 FIFA World Cup champion, UEFA Euro 2000 winner, two-time Ligue 1 champion with Monaco, two-time Serie A champion with Juventus, and currently serves as a FIFA ambassador.
In a video message, Trezeguet stated, “Hello Armenia, hello Yerevan. I am David Trezeguet and I want to inform you that in the end of May I will be with you to participate in the presentation event of the Juventus football club academies. We are looking forward to it and see you soon.”
The Juventus Football Academy in Armenia is being developed by Next Gen Sports, an Armenian company granted property rights to use facilities at 20/4 Avan Acharyan Street in Yerevan for a period of 25 years. The academy will operate as a franchise, adhering to Juventus’s rigorous standards for training junior footballers. Facilities will include a football field, swimming pool, and auxiliary amenities provided by the Children’s and Youth Olympic Athletics School and the Football Federation of Armenia.
Next Gen Sports has committed to investing over 1 billion AMD (approximately $2.6 million) over the next five years in developing the academy and enhancing the Hrazdan Stadium and its surrounding facilities. A significant component of this project involves the privatization of the Hrazdan Sports Complex CJSC, including the reserve field adjacent to the iconic Hrazdan Stadium. The Armenian government’s approval of this initiative solidifies the long-term vision for advancing youth football in the country.
David Trezeguet’s career boasts remarkable achievements. Over 562 professional appearances, he scored 273 goals and secured numerous honors. Internationally, he was part of the French national team that won the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 UEFA Eurocup, with his decisive golden goal in the latter marking a career-defining moment.
At the club level, Trezeguet won two Ligue 1 titles with Monaco and two Serie A championships with Juventus, along with an Italian Super Cup. Notably, he remained loyal to Juventus during the challenging period of their relegation to Serie B, further cementing his legendary status with the club.
