AYF Camp is the place to be this summer: With eight weeks of the summer camp season, AYF Camp Summer 2025 had a record sellout for 7 of 8 weeks within hours of applications going live. This follows a successful year that saw nearly 900 campers, 150 volunteer counselors, and 28 directors spending their summer at the premier campground in Big Pines, California.

“Being a counselor at AYF Camp allows me to stay connected to my Armenian identity as an adult,” Week C and F counselor Vana Yepremian said. “I appreciate that it gives me the opportunity to teach the new generation of Armenians how important our history and culture is and how important it is stay involved in the Armenian community.”

AYF Camp is an important institution in the community, creating a home away from home for young Armenian American diasporans outside of Armenia. The camp brings together youth from all walks of life, providing them with a space in nature to connect and meet with other Armenians, learn about Armenian culture, history and heritage, and create a lifetime of memories.

“AYF Camp is our home away from home, a place where we create a piece of our homeland thousands of miles away,” said Week A Director Mico Melkonian. “I’ve been volunteering as a director for many years, and each summer, I’m reminded why this place is so special. It’s where we share songs, stories, and memories that connect us deeply to our Armenian identity. Most importantly, it’s where we witness the bright minds of the next generation come to life, building lifelong friendships and a strong sense of community.”

As AYF Camp continues to invest in this home away from home, major upgrades are planned for the campground, including a complete lodge renovation and several infrastructure updates to the Big Pines and Twin Valleys locations, made possible through funding from the State of California.

“As a family, AYF Camp is a cherished tradition, an experience we prioritize for our children every summer,” said Week E and H parent Narineh Kouzouian. “It is more than just a week outdoors; it is a safe and nurturing environment where my kids form lifelong bonds with their Armenian brothers and sisters while immersing themselves in our rich heritage, history, and culture—especially the values of patriotism. No other activity compares to the unique experience AYF Camp provides. It fosters a deep sense of identity, belonging, and pride in our Armenian roots. Year after year, my children eagerly anticipate their return, never tiring of the friendships, lessons, and unforgettable memories they create. For us, AYF Camp is not just an activity; it is an essential part of our family’s journey in preserving and celebrating our Armenian heritage.”

AYF Camp welcomes the community to visit the campground on April 12 for the AYF Camp Family Picnic. Information on tickets and RSVP are on AYF Camp’s Instagram page.
