The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that negotiations on the draft Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan have been finalized?
In an official statement on March 13, the ministry announced that Armenia had conveyed to Azerbaijan, through diplomatic channels, its acceptance of Azerbaijan’s proposals on the two previously uncoordinated articles of the draft agreement. Yerevan also had proposed issuing a joint statement to confirm the completion of negotiations.
However, according to the ministry, Baku opted to issue a unilateral statement instead.
“Thus, the Peace Agreement is ready for signing. The Republic of Armenia is ready to begin consultations with the Republic of Azerbaijan on the dates and place of signing the Agreement,” the statement read.
Earlier in the day, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov confirmed that the two sides had reached an agreement on the terms of the draft treaty, signaling that the long-awaited peace deal may soon be formalized.
“We had previously mentioned that two clauses were still pending, and in recent days, the Armenian side has informed us through communication channels that they have accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on these two open issues, so we can celebrate the completion of work on the text,” said Bayramov during an interview with journalists on the sidelines at the XII Global Baku Forum.
No specific details were shared on which two articles had been under discussion.
