Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the UN Human Rights Council session on February 24 in Geneva to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.
According to a statement from the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the two diplomats emphasized their commitment to strengthening cooperation between Armenia and Iran. Discussions focused on various sectors, with both sides expressing readiness to take practical steps toward further collaboration. The meeting also covered ongoing efforts and future programs in different fields, as well as opportunities for cooperation in various formats.
During the talks, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to strengthening ties with Armenia, emphasizing the importance of regional stability and security. He stressed that maintaining peace in the South Caucasus requires cooperation among neighboring countries, free from external interference. The foreign ministers also discussed efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
“It is essential for all regional nations to uphold stability, security, and mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Araghchi stated.
Mirzoyan, in turn, highlighted the strong and significant relationship between Armenia and Iran. He praised Tehran’s consistent stance on respecting Armenia’s territorial integrity and its recognition of geopolitical sensitivities in the region. The discussion also touched on the unblocking of regional economic and transport communications, with both sides underscoring the importance of unconditional respect for the fundamental principles of international law.
The meeting underscored the two countries’ commitment to fostering diplomatic and economic collaboration while reinforcing security in the South Caucasus. Mirzoyan is attending high-level sessions of the UN Human Rights Council and the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva taking place from February 24-28, where he will be delivering speeches.
