The Wings of Tatev cable car in Armenia’s Syunik region has once again been nominated for the prestigious World Travel Awards, marking its third consecutive year of recognition. This year, it is competing for the title of “World’s Leading Cable Car Ride 2024,” which it previously secured in both 2021 and 2023. In this category, Wings of Tatev faces formidable competition from cable cars in Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Vietnam, New Zealand, South Africa, and the USA. Voting is available on the award website until October 20, 2024.
Renowned as the world’s longest reversible passenger cable car, Wings of Tatev holds a Guinness World Record not only for its length”5,752 meters”but also as the only engineering structure of this scale constructed in just 10 months. The project was brought to life by the Austrian-Swiss company Doppelmayr/Garaventa, a leader in ropeway construction. This year, the cable car celebrates its 14th year of operation, having served over 1.3 million passengers since its inauguration in 2010. Thanks to the Wings of Tatev, the tourist flow to the Syunik region has increased 17-fold compared to 2010, with every fifth tourist in Armenia now visiting Tatev.
Maria Butenko, Director of Wings of Tatev, urges people to vote, emphasizing the impact that winning would have on Armenia’s tourism industry: “Securing this prestigious award once again will not only bring global recognition to Wings of Tatev but also further elevate Armenia as a top-tier tourism destination. It will help us continue contributing to the growth of the local community, the preservation of cultural heritage, and the development of Armenia’s tourism industry. I encourage everyone to vote and be part of this journey towards another achievement for Armenia.”
