Azerbaijan Intensifies Fake News Campaign Targeting Armenia With More Baseless Border Shooting Accusations, Aiming To Escalate Tensions & Destabilize The Region

NewsArmeniaAzerbaijan Intensifies Fake News Campaign Targeting Armenia With More Baseless Border Shooting Accusations, Aiming To Escalate Tensions & Destabilize The Region

On September 5, Azerbaijani authorities intensified their fake news campaign targeting Armenia, once again falsely accusing the Armenian military of cross-border shootings on both September 4 and 5.

These unfounded allegations were immediately refuted by Armenia’s Defense Ministry (MoD).

In its latest accusation, Azerbaijan alleged that Armenian forces fired at Azerbaijani positions in the eastern border region at 9:55 a.m. Armenia’s MoD firmly denied the accusation, stating that it “does not correspond to reality.”

The September 4 and 5 allegations are just the latest in Azerbaijan’s ongoing disinformation campaign aimed at escalating tensions and destabilizing the region.

Documented Falsehoods by Azerbaijan in 2024:

September 5: Allegation of Armenian fire at 9:55 a.m. in the eastern border region.

September 4: Allegation of Armenian fire at 7:35 p.m. in the southwestern border region.

August 28: Allegations of Armenian fire at 6:30 p.m. and 6:45 a.m. in the southwestern border region”both refuted by Armenia’s MoD.

August 18: Allegations of Armenian fire at 11:50 p.m. (eastern border) and 7:30 p.m. (southwestern border).

August 16: Claim of Armenian fire at 3:20 a.m. in the western border region.

August 15: Allegation of Armenian fire at 6:10 p.m. in the southwestern border region.

July 28: False claim of Armenian reconnaissance flights at 5:40 p.m. in the southeastern border region.

July 20: Allegation of Armenian fire at 10:10 p.m. in the eastern border region.

June 22: Claim of Armenian fire at 1:00 p.m. in the eastern border region.

June 21: Allegation of Armenian fire between 12:25 p.m. and 3:35 p.m. in the eastern border region.

June 16: Claim of Armenian fire at 12:50 a.m. in the southwestern border region.

June 14: Allegation of Armenian fire at 7:15 a.m. in the southwestern border region.

June 13: False claim of Armenian fire at 7:50 p.m. in the southwestern border region.

June 12: Allegation of Armenian fire between 10:05 a.m. and 5:50 p.m. in the southwestern border region.

Armenia’s Defense Ministry has consistently refuted these baseless accusations, reaffirming Armenia’s commitment to truth and peace, in contrast to Azerbaijan’s ongoing misinformation campaign. This disinformation strategy reveals Azerbaijan’s clear intent to escalate tensions and undermine efforts toward peace and stability in the region.

The Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia has proposed establishing a joint Armenia-Azerbaijan mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations and related incidents, to which Azerbaijan has yet to respond.
