Armenia’s Foreign Ministry has expressed support for the initiative led by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar regarding the ceasefire and release of hostages in the Gaza Strip, an effort aimed at reducing tensions in the region.
“Profoundly realizing importance of ceasefire and hostage release when human lives and regular peace are at stake, Armenia welcomes initiative by leaders of US, Egypt and Qatar. Hopefully, a tangible outcome will be achieved during next discussions to bring relief to suffering people,” said Armenia’s Foreign Ministry (MFA) in a post on X.
Earlier today, the authorities of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States called on Israel and Hamas to urgently resume negotiations on a ceasefire and the release of hostages. The talks are scheduled to take place on August 15 in Doha or Cairo, aiming to resolve the remaining gaps and begin implementing the agreement without any further delay.
The resumption of talks follows the recent assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, which has raised concerns about escalating tensions. Iran and Hezbollah have vowed to retaliate against Israel, which has not officially acknowledged its involvement in Haniyeh’s death. In response, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a direct appeal to both Iran and Israel to avoid further escalation in the Middle East.
The joint statement from the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar emphasized the urgency of the situation: “Our three teams have worked tirelessly for many months to reach the framework agreement that is now on the table. All that remains is to fill in the details of its implementation. We cannot waste any more time or justify further delays. It is time to release the hostages, start a ceasefire, and implement this agreement.”
The Israeli Prime Minister’s office announced that the Israeli delegation will depart for negotiations on August 15. However, Hamas representatives have yet to comment. Mediators have acknowledged that achieving a ceasefire, especially after Haniyeh’s death, will be challenging.
