On September 13, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan met with a delegation headed by Toivo Klaar, the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry’s statement runs as follows,

“Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and EU Special Representative Toivo Klaar had a detailed discussion on the issues of regional security.

The sides emphasized the need for a comprehensive and lasting settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship. The Foreign Minister stressed that in order to ensure regional stability and security, it is important to ensure the maintaining of the ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional repatriation of prisoners of war and captured civilians held in Azerbaijan, as well as the renouncement of Armenophobic, warmongering rhetoric.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia also stressed that the illegal presence of the Azerbaijani armed forces in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and the conduct of military drills in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone undermine the efforts of de-escalation in the region.

During the meeting the interlocutors exchanged views on the agenda of the Armenia-EU partnership.”
