Azerbaijan’s law enforcement authorities have launched a criminal case against the Armenian officer who accidentally crossed into the country last week after being reported missing due to unfavorable weather conditions.
As part of the proceeding, instituted by the Prosecutor General’s Office and State Security Service of Azerbaijan, Gurgen Alaverdyan is accused of five counts of crime, the Armenian Defense Ministry’s spokeswoman, Shushan Stepanyan said on Facebook today, dismissing all the charges as “baseless”.
“All the charges filed are totally absurd, and this entire process is part of a traditional show lacking quality.
“The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia maintains permanent contact with international organizations and continues working intensively to resolve this situation,” she said.
