Picsart, founded in Yerevan in 2011, placed 8th on Andreessen Horowitz’s list of the world’s 50 most-used AI mobile apps, ahead of Claude, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Grok.
The app built in Yerevan has more monthly active users than any of them, according to the seventh edition of the venture firm’s Top 100 Consumer AI Apps report, published on October 5. The mobile list draws on Sensor Tower data from August 2026.
ChatGPT took first place, followed by CapCut, Gemini and Canva. Picsart sits at 8. Claude is 12th, DeepSeek 14th, Meta AI 18th and Grok 19th.
The report ranks products across 3 separate lists. Alongside the mobile ranking, Andreessen Horowitz ranks the top 50 web products by monthly visits using Similarweb data, and for the first time ranks apps by observed consumer spending using data from YipitData. That spending data covers the United States only and is drawn from panels rather than a census.
The firm has published the list across 7 editions since 2023. Only 11 products make their first appearance in this one, the smallest number of debuts so far.
Picsart was founded in November 2011 in Yerevan by Armenian entrepreneur Hovhannes Avoyan, with engineers Artavazd Mehrabyan and Mikayel Vardanyan. Avoyan is chief executive and Mehrabyan chief technology officer. The first app launched on Android later that year.
Avoyan has said he started the company after his young daughter was bullied online for sharing her artwork.
The platform offers photo and video editing tools across web and mobile, with template-based and layer editing alongside generative AI features. Picsart reports around 150 million monthly active users and more than 2.5 billion downloads.
The company moved its corporate headquarters to Miami Beach in February 2022 as part of a global expansion and is now headquartered in Miami and Yerevan. It reached unicorn status in 2021, 10 years after it was founded, and its backers include SoftBank, Sequoia Capital, DCM Ventures and Insight Partners.
