Niagara Falls will be illuminated in the colors of the Armenian flag on September 21 at 10 p.m. to mark the 35th anniversary of Armenia’s independence, the Armenian Embassy in Canada said.
“We look forward to celebrating this special occasion with you,” the Embassy said in its announcement.
The Armenian flag will also fly outside Ottawa City Hall that day, and the Ottawa Sign will be lit in red, blue and orange throughout the day.
Armenia declared independence from the Soviet Union following a referendum held on September 21, 1991. The date has been marked as Independence Day ever since.
Niagara Falls has carried the Armenian tricolor before. The Embassy arranged the same lighting for the 29th anniversary in 2020, working with the Niagara Falls Illumination Board, which approves and schedules the falls’ nightly colors.
