NewsArmeniaArmenian Surgeons Perform Historic First-Ever Robotic Surgeries in Yerevan

Armenia has entered a new era in healthcare with the successful performance of its first-ever robotic surgeries, carried out at the SlavMed Medical Center in Yerevan. The landmark procedures, performed in the fields of general surgery, urology, and gynecology, marked the first use of robotic surgical technology in the country and were completed successfully, according to Yerevan State Medical University Rector Armen Muradyan and surgeon Vahe Ter-Minasyan.

The historic procedures were carried out at the SlavMed Medical Center in Yerevan, Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) Rector Armen Muradyan announced in a Facebook post.

“Today, the first robotic surgery was performed in Armenia,” Muradyan wrote. “Robotic surgery has today become a reality in our country. For the first time in Armenia, robotic surgeries were performed at the SlavMed Medical Center.”

Muradyan stated that he was “happy and proud that the first procedure was a urological surgery, a robotic kidney resection,” adding, “And most importantly, the surgery was successful.” He noted that the procedure was performed by urologist Mher Mkhitaryan.

Providing additional details, surgeon Vahe Ter-Minasyan reported that a total of three robotic surgeries were performed on the same day.

“Today, we opened a new page in Armenian surgery,” Ter-Minasyan wrote on Facebook. “For the first time in Armenia, we performed three robotic surgeries simultaneously, in the fields of general surgery, urology, and gynecology.”

He added, “Without undue modesty, I can say that it is a fantastic feeling when you realize that you and your friends are the first to have done it.”

Together, the successful completion of these procedures confirms the introduction of robotic surgery in Armenia and underscores the growing capabilities of the country’s medical institutions and specialists.
