The Armenian government will soon introduce a new unified emergency telephone number, 112, replacing the currently active three different numbers 911, 102, and 101, a move officials say is aimed at eliminating public confusion and ensuring faster, more effective emergency response nationwide.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Mkrtchyan said the existence of multiple emergency numbers has often caused confusion among the public.
“Citizens often do not understand in which specific cases they should call 102, 911, or 101. It is the state’s responsibility to ensure the effective handling of emergency calls, and any possible confusion can delay the response,” he said.
Previously, 101 was designated as the fire brigade number, 102 for the police, while 911 was later introduced as a general emergency number.
During the gradual implementation process, all three existing numbers will continue to operate and will automatically redirect calls to 112, which will function as the country’s single general emergency number.
