Peggy Garabekian Unveils Armenia’s National Costume At Miss Universe 2025

NewsArmeniaPeggy Garabekian Unveils Armenia’s National Costume At Miss Universe 2025

Peggy Garabekian unveiled Armenia’s National Costume today during the 2025 Miss Universe National Costume Competition in Bangkok, Thailand, capturing immediate attention as she stepped out in a sculptural look deeply tied to Armenian heritage. As Armenia’s representative in one of the world’s most recognized pageants, which brings together contestants from dozens of countries to celebrate culture, confidence, and global beauty, Peggy walked on stage in an ensemble that reflected symbolism, faith, and national pride.

As the pageant moves toward the Preliminary Competition and the Finals on November 21, she carries the responsibility of representing a nation defined by resilience, faith, and a timeless cultural spirit.

A Costume Rooted in Armenia’s Soul by Designer Martun Gevorgyan

Armenia’s National Costume was created by 22-year-old Armenian designer Martun Gevorgyan, whose work has centered on Armenian identity since he began designing at 18. Inspired by Armenia’s natural wonder, the Symphony of Stones, the gown’s sculptural form symbolizes endurance and the strength of the Armenian people.

The gown’s base is white to represent purity and divine light, with red, blue, and orange accents reflecting the Armenian flag. Faux leather and organza Forget-Me-Not flowers appear throughout the design as symbols of remembrance and unity.

The architectural headpiece is one of the most striking elements. A miniature church stands at its center, representing Armenia’s Christian heritage as the first nation to adopt Christianity. A gold cross tops the structure, and on the roof are three sacred Armenian letters:

  • ? – Astvats (God)
  • ? – Kristos (Christ)
  • ? – Surp Hoki (Holy Spirit)

These letters represent the Holy Trinity. Surrounding the church is a metal goddess-style crown symbolizing purity and grace. Warrior-inspired sleeves honor Armenian resilience, and Peggy carries a pomegranate, a national symbol of femininity, prosperity, and eternal life.

The Designer Behind the Vision

Martun Gevorgyan graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles in 2024. He has since worked as a freelance designer with a clear mission: to showcase Armenia through fashion. As he explains: “From the moment I started, I knew exactly what I wanted my work to stand for: Armenia. My goal has always been to make my country known and respected through my designs, and everything I create comes from that love and pride I carry for my culture. I want my work to speak for my roots and, hopefully, make my people proud.”

His journey has been challenging but meaningful. “It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been the most rewarding journey. I’m genuinely thankful to everyone who has supported me, believed in me, and helped my work reach a bigger world. Every message, every share, every person who sees meaning in what I create, it all means more to me than I can explain. I’m still growing, still learning, and still pushing to show the beauty of Armenia through fashion, and this is only the beginning.”
