Armenian tennis star Elina Avanesyan has set her sights on competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games, representing Armenia, she announced while speaking at a press conference on Monday, September 8.
Avanesyan revealed that health setbacks had recently slowed her progress. “I got sick this March, which really drained my energy,” she said. “Recovery was difficult, and afterward, I struggled with an injury that kept me from performing well in international tournaments. But I believe everything happens for a reason. This challenge has taught me patience. I’ve almost fully recovered now, though I still have some issues with my shoulder.”
She said that participating in the Olympics has always been her life’s dream. “Every athlete aspires to take part in the Olympic Games, and I am no exception. I look forward to the opportunity to participate, not only in the Los Angeles Olympics but also in future editions,” she noted.
Beyond the court, Avanesyan has been sharing her experience with young players, leading tennis master classes in Yerevan. She plans to expand the initiative to other cities across Armenia in the near future.
