The presidents of the football federations of Armenia and Portugal on Saturday signed a memorandum regulating bilateral relations ahead of the Armenia-Portugal World Cup qualifier, reports the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA).
The memorandum envisages organizing and holding international tournaments, educational programs, seminars, and conferences, as well as exchanging experience and expertise in the fields of sports infrastructure development and management, the use of sports and scientific equipment, and sports science and medicine.
Special attention will be given to the education and training of coaches and technical staff. The parties also agreed to hold friendly football and futsal matches.
Commenting on the signing, Armen Melikbekyan, President of the Football Federation of Armenia, said: “We can benefit greatly from this memorandum. We can gain the experience of the Portuguese Football Federation. It will also be very important if the Portuguese side, as we have already agreed, provides us with some advice on the creation of a professional league.”
Pedro Proença, President of the Portuguese Football Federation, described the document as the beginning of new relations, noting that with this memorandum they would bring the secrets of Portuguese football to Armenia.
