Pakistan has no plans to recognize Armenia’s independence without first consulting Azerbaijan, Pakistani Ambassador to Baku Qasim Mohiuddin told Report.az.
The envoy said Islamabad’s stance stems from what he described as the “illegal occupation of Azerbaijani territories” by Armenia.
“This is an expression of love, respect, and solidarity with brotherly Azerbaijan. We have followed this policy for three decades, and any changes will come only after consultations with our Azerbaijani friends,” Mohiuddin stated.
Pakistan remains the only country in the world that does not recognize Armenia as a sovereign state, a policy it has held for 30 years. This unwavering stance has persisted despite Armenia’s universal recognition since 1991, underscoring Islamabad’s alignment with Azerbaijan and Turkey and its refusal to engage diplomatically with Yerevan.
It has been a steadfast supporter of Azerbaijan since the outbreak of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) conflict, offering political backing and, during the 2020 war, active support.
In recent years, the two countries have conducted multiple joint military exercises, including trilateral drills with Turkey.
By clinging to this decades-old policy, Pakistan has placed itself in complete diplomatic isolation on the issue, standing apart from every other country in the world in its refusal to acknowledge Armenia’s statehood.
