Nicolas Aznavour, son of legendary French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour, has urged Armenian political prisoner in Baku, Ruben Vardanyan, to end his hunger strike on day 15 as his health continues to drastically deteriorate. Vardanyan remains in very critical condition, with growing calls for his immediate release.

Aznavour emphasized that now is the time for Armenians worldwide to stand by Vardanyan, just as he has always stood by them. He highlighted Vardanyan’s lifelong commitment to Armenia—his humanitarian efforts, leadership, and dedication to strengthening the nation’s future. Stressing that his sacrifice should not come at the cost of his health or life, Aznavour called on Armenians to raise awareness, demand justice, and prove to the world that Armenians never abandon those who fight for them.

Nicolas Aznavour statement runs as follows,

“Dear friends,

Today, I wish to address a matter of extreme urgency. Ruben Vardanyan, a man who has dedicated his life to Armenia, its people, and its future, is currently on a hunger strike in a Baku prison after being unjustly imprisoned in Azerbaijan for over 500 days. His commitment to justice remains unwavering, but his health and life are far too precious to be put at risk.

Ruben has always worked for Armenia—through his humanitarian efforts, his leadership, and his vision for a stronger, united future. Whether by supporting education, launching social initiatives, rebuilding communities, or fostering economic development, his impact extends far beyond our borders. Every action he has taken has been for the benefit of the Armenian people—to uphold our dignity, our rights, and our aspiration to live in peace.

Today, it is our turn to stand up for Ruben. We must urge him to end his hunger strike and allow us—Armenians across the world—to help him carry this burden. We must raise our voices, raise awareness, and demand concrete action. His sacrifice must not come at the cost of his health or his life.

Let us unite. Let us speak out. Let us ensure that Ruben’s struggle does not go unnoticed. Share his story, demand justice, and show the world that Armenians never abandon those who stand for them.

Ruben, my dear friend, we need you strong and by our side. Please, end this hunger strike, and let us continue this fight for justice together.”
